If you want a tight, useful estimate for a custom adult-friendly bunk bed, the single best thing you can do is send clear photos, accurate measurements, and a simple sketch before we start sizing and pricing options. That reduces follow-up emails and gives us enough context to recommend configurations that actually fit your room.
Overview — what we need and why
Florida Bunk Beds designs around your room, mattress choices, ceiling height, and how you plan to use the space. To estimate well we need visual cues (photos), hard dimensions (measurements), and a rough layout (sketch). Follow this checklist exactly and you’ll speed an accurate quote without extra back-and-forth.
The exact checklist: 7 photos to provide
Take the following seven photos from the room where the bunk bed will go. Use a wide-angle or phone camera, hold the phone vertical for portrait shots unless noted, and don’t worry about perfect lighting — clarity matters more than styling.
- Photo 1 — Full-room view from the doorway: Stand in the doorway and capture the whole room so we can see door swing, overall proportions, and obvious obstructions.
- Photo 2 — Opposite wall view: From the far corner looking back toward the doorway. This gives a second perspective on width and depth.
- Photo 3 — Ceiling height reference: Take a vertical shot of the wall from floor to ceiling where the bed will sit. If there’s a sloped ceiling, shoot the slope from the center of the room.
- Photo 4 — Window(s) and trim: Show any windows, window sills, radiators, or built-in bench seating that affect layout or frame placement.
- Photo 5 — Closet, HVAC, or built-ins: Capture closets, ductwork returns, heaters, or cabinets near the proposed bed zone.
- Photo 6 — Doorway and clearances: A close shot of the doorway with the door open and the floor area near the door. We need to confirm installation access and mattress circulation.
- Photo 7 — Nearby obstacles or finish details: Show baseboards, crown molding, switches, outlets, and any low-hanging light fixtures or beams that could conflict with bunks or stair placement.
Six measurements to take (accurate to within 1 inch)
Use a tape measure. Record each measurement in inches or feet and inches. Label each measurement clearly on your sketch so we don’t have to guess which wall you measured.
- Measurement A — Room width: Wall to wall distance where the bunk bed will sit (left to right looking at your chosen wall).
- Measurement B — Room depth: From the chosen wall to the opposite wall (front to back).
- Measurement C — Ceiling height: Floor to ceiling at the highest point in the room. If the ceiling is sloped, give both high and low heights and note where each is located.
- Measurement D — Distance from floor to window sill (if relevant): From floor to the bottom of the window sill nearest the proposed bed area.
- Measurement E — Distance from proposed bed wall to nearest door frame or closet opening: This identifies needed clearance for stair modules or side access.
- Measurement F — Doorway width and height: Measure the doorway you’ll use to bring parts into the room. If installation access is through a hallway, measure the narrowest point.
Notes on mattress sizes
Tell us the mattress sizes you plan to use (twin, full, queen) and whether mattresses include toppers. Mattress choice affects required interior clearances and overall height.
Sketch template — a simple diagram you can draw in five minutes
You don’t need CAD. Sketch the room on a plain sheet of paper or in your phone notes using this template:
- Draw a rectangle for the room and label which wall is the doorway.
- Mark the location of windows, closets, radiators, light fixtures, and HVAC returns.
- Write the six measurements (A–F) next to the corresponding wall or feature.
- Put an X where you prefer the bunk bed to go, or draw a small rectangle to show orientation (long side against wall or short side).
- If you want stairs, mark which side you prefer them (left or right when facing the bed).
Take a photo of the sketch and include it with the room photos.
How to send everything (upload or call/text)
Preferred: Use our online Bunk Bed Builder to upload your photos, measurements, and sketch. The Builder lets you place a bunk over your room photo so we start from the right geometry. Start here: Bunk Bed Builder.
Or: If you prefer human contact, call or text Carson or Andy at 850-361-9988. When you message, attach the seven photos, list the six measurements, and include your sketch photo. If you’re ready to move forward after we review, use the quick link to request a bunk bed quote.
Extra tips that cut follow-up time
- Label each photo file (e.g., “RoomDoorway.jpg”, “CeilingSlope.jpg”) so we can reference images directly.
- Include your mattress preferences and whether you want stairs, ladders, drawers, or a trundle in the initial message.
- If the room is hard to access during the day, send a wide shot earlier and a close-up of problem areas later—better to get something than nothing.
- If your property is in the Florida Keys or along the Gulf Coast, note any concerns about humidity or salt air in the message so we can suggest suitable finishes. You can learn more about our regional designs on the Florida Keys and custom bunk beds in Florida pages.
What we’ll do after we get your files
Once we receive your photos, measurements, and sketch we’ll review for clear conflicts (ceiling obstructions, narrow doorways, HVAC). If everything looks straightforward we’ll propose one or more configurations — queen-over-queen, twin-over-queen, triple, or a built-in layout — and list any additional questions. Providing the seven photos and six measurements up front dramatically reduces that back-and-forth.
Ready to send your info?
Upload your photos and sketch in the Bunk Bed Builder or call/text Carson or Andy at 850-361-9988 with the seven photos and six measurements listed above. When you’re ready to formalize the request, visit our request a bunk bed quote page and we’ll get started reviewing your room.
Clear photos, precise measurements, and a quick sketch are the fastest route to an accurate, useful quote — less guessing, fewer emails, and better design results for your Florida vacation rental or beach home.
